The SNES Music Survey

Massively updated from the previous survey, this new one allows you to see other people's favourite SNES music, and various other info (such as scores, favourite tracks, personal info, and many other comments). If you haven't already, study our rankings, and our choices of SNES music in the main table. This isn't required, but it is strongly recommended so that you can answer more of the questions, and more effectively.

"What is the purpose of this survey?"

One of the main reasons for creating this survey is for people to find others who share similar tastes in music. SNES music covers such a broad variety of styles, so it's a perfect medium for comparison. Every scrap of data you enter into this survey is optional, and is available for everyone to see in the Log table. Also, your overall rankings are available here. If you have any ideas to improve the survey, then don't hesitate to contact me.

"Can I take the survey more than once?"

Yes, but you must wait at least 2 weeks after your first submission. Also, for obvious reasons, in the "Rank the music" section, you must try not to vote for the games that you have previously ranked. Apart from that though, you're more or less free to vote as you please! Also, if you want me to edit your submission in some way (for whatever reasons), then contact me.

"What happened to the old survey?"

This one has replaced it :-) However you can still see the old results by clicking here. Also, here is the old text log, so that you can see people's comments.

Preliminary questions (optional)

Prior to visiting this site, how much SNES music had you already heard?
(Click the white space below and select one of the 6 options)

What do you think of Skytopia's SNES music ratings? Do you agree with them?
(You'll need to see the main table, or at least quickly glance at our overall rankings)

How many new tunes have you discovered as a result of this site?

How would you rate your taste in music compared to other people?

Rank the music (optional)

Now give a ranking from 0 to 20 for as many, or as few games as you wish in the table below.
The more games' music you rank, the better, but don't rate any music unless you're more or less sure it's an accurate score. All games are listed in alphabetical order, and you will need to scroll the horizontal bar to access more.
Give a score from 0 to 20 according to the following guidelines:

Terminology: Great > Excellent > Very Good > Good > Listenable > Mediocre > Poor > Very poor

18-20 = The game contains many Excellent tunes and at least a few really Great ones.
15-18 = Generally Excellent tunes, and maybe 1 or 2 Great tunes. Or, a few Great tunes, but the rest are 'only' quite Good.
13-15 = Generally Good tunes, with no real great tunes. Or, a few Very good tunes, but the rest are generally Mediocre.
10-13 = Generally Listenable tunes, with no good tunes. Or, a few Good tunes, but the rest are generally Mediocre or Poor.
7-10 = Generally Mediocre tunes, but with a few Listenable tunes in there. There may be one or two Good tunes if you're lucky.
4-7 = Generally Mediocre or Poor tunes. There may be one or two Listenable tunes if you're lucky.
0-4 = Generally Poor or Very poor tunes. Do not give this low rating, unless you're convinced it deserves it.

IMPORTANT! You can rate any number of games, but you are not allowed to give a score above 15 for any game, unless you have heard most of the following popular tunes in the 'critical' list below. Additionally, you may not give a score of 18 or more, unless you've heard every one of them. Here they are:
The Critical List

Axelay, Bahamut Lagoon, Chrono Trigger, Donkey Kong country 1, Donkey Kong Country 2 (Diddie Kong's Quest), EarthBound, F-Zero, Final Fantasy 4 (Jap) = (FF2 US), Final Fantasy 5, Final Fantasy 6 (Jap) = (FF3 US), Kirby's Dreamland 3 (Hoshi No Kirby 3), Kirby Super Star DX, Megaman (series), Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen, Parodius, Parodius 2, Pop 'n' Twinbee, Secret of Mana (Seiken Densetsu 2), Sparkster, Star Fox (Starwing), Street Fighter 2, Super Aleste (Space Megaforce), Super CastleVania 4, Super Earth Defense Force, Super Mario Kart, Super Mario World, Super Metroid, Terranigma (Tenchi Souzou), The Legend of Zelda 3 - A Link to the Past, Twinbee Rainbow Bell Adventures, U.N. Squadron, Yoshi's Island

That may seem like a lot, but they include some of the greatest SNES music as voted by you lot in the
old music poll. So you will almost certainly not waste your time by listening to them. Download them from Snesmusic.org. It's a necessary measure so that the best music will more easily rise to the top. Just to make sure you're clear on all of this, please select one of the following:

ALSO IMPORTANT! Don't give a score less than 5, unless you're absolutely convinced it deserves it. Remember, most stuff you're just "not keen on" should get around 5 to 10 points, so always be fair.
