The thing which gets me is that apparently, for a single melody line, the 12-note system isn't just ideal, but apparently perfect. So if one were to play the singles notes seperatly: C, E, G,... that would be considered perfect as a /melody/, but if one were to instead play those same notes as a chord, then the 12-note is apparently not perfect, and then just-tone is required for perfection. But what I still can't understand is how a different set of notes are apparently needed if the notes: C, E & G are played seperately rather than if they were played as a simultaneous chord. i.e. a chord requires the ratios 1, 1.25 and 1.5 (just) for 'perfection'...... and melody requires: 1, 1.259, 1.498 (12t-et) for 'perfection'.
