SonicPhoto is an audio program to convert from pictures to sound. Use your existing photo collection or draw your own in Photoshop (or any other paint editor) and with a click of a button, watch SonicPhoto create the sound before your eyes.

Inspired by the existing PhotoSounder program from Michel Rouzic, SonicPhoto loses the internal paint editor and sound importer, but gains automatic and convincing stereo, and a unique harmony filter to help create distinct and professional effects ranging from sparkling synths and rippling arpeggios, to roaring bass and metallic drones.



Using SonicPhoto is simplicity itself. You can often achieve effective results by merely clicking "Load picture..." at the top left, and then click the green button "Create or Play sound". Following that, you might change one of the numerous slider options or finish off by saving the sound. For first time users, make sure you check out the inbuilt preset examples ("Choose a preset!" at top left) to see what you can achieve!



Pictures can be obtained in numerous ways - photos, drawings, artwork, public domain, stock art.
For creating your own pictures, try MS Paint, Photoshop, RealWorld Paint, Paint.NET, or GIMP.
For public domain (royalty free) pictures, try Pixabay.com, PublicDomainPictures.net, this giant list, or if you're prepared to pay, then perhaps iStockPhoto.com.

How it works in simple terms

If you're creating your own pictures, it is useful to have an idea of how SonicPhoto converts pictures to sound. Here is a simple example (see picture to left). See the diagonal line going upwards? That means the sound is getting higher and higher in pitch. Notice also how the line fades out to the end? That means the sound will get quieter as it gets higher. Since our diagonal line is thin, that means it will be more of a instrument or tone, rather than a noise (a more 'noisy' sound would have a thicker line).

There's another element to the picture too, the 'glowing' semi-circle at the right of the image. This sounds like a big 'clap' that starts suddenly and gradually fades out. Try drawing your own shapes, and see how they sound!
